A strategic collaboration between Deakin University, the Technische Universität Chemnitz and Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Polymerforschung IAP, Germany has officially begun.

Saxon Minister of State Thomas Schmidt witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the three institutes on Friday 24 May, which represents a commitment to foster research and academic links relating to IFM’s Carbon Nexus and Technische Universität Chemnitz’s new carbon fibre plant, and work together to create new technologies surrounding all aspects of carbon fibre and carbon fibre composites.

Carbon fibre is the material of the 21st century and is driving enormous benefits to the world by enabling the generation of low-cost renewable energy, improving fuel efficiencies, and creating innovative lightweight structures for the future.

We look forward to this collaboration.

Deakin University Vice Chancellor Iain Martin, Saxon Minister of State Thomas Schmidt, Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Polymerforschung IAP Dr Andre Lehmann and Technische Universität Chemnitz Professor Lothar Kroll.
