The international excitement around the Deakin/VCAMM Carbon Nexus initiative continues to grow as our 2nd biennial ‘Carbon Fibre-Future Directions’ International Conference was held in Geelong last month. The conference was a huge success with a range of projects arising as a direct result of the conference.

Following the conference, VCAMM and Deakin University, with the support of the Victorian State Government, exhibited a Carbon Nexus stand at JEC Europe, Paris 2013 this month. This stand not only helped cement the reputation of Carbon Nexus as a world leading Centre of Excellence in Carbon Fibre & Composite Research, but also promoted Australia as a source of world class research and innovation.

“It was a great showcase for Carbon Nexus in particular as well as giving us an opportunity to discuss other areas of research at Deakin with the key players in the automotive and aerospace industries,” said Associate Professor Bronwyn Fox, from Deakin University.

Visitors to the JEC stand included senior representatives of major Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical and Fibre producing companies.

“As well as at the Avalon International Airshow and the Formula One Grand Prix where we’ve also had stands, we received a lot of comments from the public saying ‘wow we didn’t know Deakin did this sort of research’.

“Just starting to get the message out both here in Australia and overseas has been a huge effort, but already the benefits are flowing through with a number of new industry projects currently under development.”

We look forward to exhibiting at JEC Singapore in June 2013 to once again, promote Australian capability and Carbon Nexus as a world leading Centre of Excellence in Carbon Fibre & Composite Research.
